How do I calculate the size of an RO system?
Determine your daily product water demand in GPD, then divide by the recovery rate (50–85% for BWRO, 35–45% for SWRO) to get feed flow. Membrane count depends on per-element capacity: roughly 2,500 GPD for 4040 and 10,000 GPD for 8040 elements.
What is the difference between BWRO and SWRO?
BWRO treats 1,000–10,000 ppm feed at 150–400 psi with 50–85% recovery. SWRO treats 30,000–45,000 ppm feed at 800–1,200 psi with 35–45% recovery. SWRO uses more energy and requires high-pressure pumps and membranes.
How much power does an RO system consume?
BWRO typically uses 1–3 kWh/m³. SWRO uses 3–6 kWh/m³ with energy recovery or 6–12 kWh/m³ without. Energy recovery devices reduce SWRO power consumption by 40–60%.
