FilmTec™ LC LE PRO-4040 is DuPont’s low-energy brackish water reverse osmosis element for commercial and industrial systems producing up to ~10 GPM of permeate. It is the direct replacement for the discontinued DOW FilmTec LC LE-4040, delivering higher rejection (99.5% stabilized) and industry-leading 94 sq.ft. active area at low operating pressure — reducing pump energy and operating cost.

Typical applications: commercial & industrial water demineralization, municipal drinking water production, and water reuse. Fits standard nominal 4" × 40" pressure vessels.

Frequently Asked Questions: LC LE-4040 vs. LC LE PRO-4040

What happened to the FilmTec LC LE-4040?

DuPont discontinued the original FilmTec LC LE-4040 and replaced it with the FilmTec LC LE PRO-4040, its official direct successor. It drops into the same 4040 housings with no system modifications.

What is the difference between the LC LE-4040 and the LC LE PRO-4040?

  • Current vs. discontinued: the LC LE PRO-4040 is the element DuPont manufactures today; the LC LE-4040 is no longer produced. Remaining “LC LE-4040” stock on the market is new-old-stock that may have been warehoused for years.
  • Performance: The PRO element is rated 2,600 GPD with 99.5% stabilized salt rejection (99.0% minimum) at 150 psig on a 2,000 ppm NaCl feed, and carries an industry-leading 94 ft² of active area in the 4040 format — more membrane in the same footprint means lower flux per square foot and gentler, more fouling-resistant operation. The original LC LE-4040 was rated at a lower 125 psig test pressure, so data-sheet flow figures are not directly comparable.
  • Newer manufacturing platform: the PRO series is built on DuPont's current precision, automated fabrication line, delivering tighter element-to-element consistency than the legacy process.
  • Dry-shipped element: the LC LE PRO-4040 ships as a dry element — long shelf life and quick performance stabilization at start-up.

What is the same on both elements?

  • Form factor: standard 4040 size (40″ length, 0.75″ permeate tube), tape-wrapped construction — fully interchangeable in standard 4040 pressure vessels with no system modifications.
  • Rated performance basis: Both are low-energy elements designed for high-quality permeate at low pressure in harsh water conditions, in the same 4040 footprint.
  • Membrane chemistry: polyamide thin-film composite (TFC).
  • Operating limits: 600 psig maximum operating pressure, 113 °F (45 °C) maximum temperature, feed SDI ≤ 5, free chlorine < 0.1 ppm.

Can I replace my LC LE-4040 with a LC LE PRO-4040 without changing my system?

Yes. The LC LE PRO-4040 is a drop-in replacement for the LC LE-4040 — same dimensions, connections, and vessel fit. No re-plumbing, housing change, or pump adjustment is required for a standard installation.

Which applications is the LC LE PRO-4040 designed for?

Light industrial and commercial RO requiring stringent permeate quality at low operating pressure, including harsh or variable feedwater conditions.
