The Danfoss PAH 50 (code 180B0047) is an axial piston high-pressure pump for tap water and other low-lubricity fluids. It is oil-free and water-lubricated — the pumped water itself lubricates the bearings, so there is no oil circuit and no path for oil to contaminate the process. The housing is AISI 304 stainless steel.

How an axial piston pump works — the same working principle as the PAH range

Why an Axial Piston Pump for Tap Water

Flow from a positive-displacement axial piston pump is set by displacement and shaft speed rather than by system pressure, so output holds steady as back-pressure rises — unlike a centrifugal pump, whose output falls away as head increases.

  • Oil-free — lubricated by the pumped water, so no oil changes and no contamination path into the process.
  • No high-pressure mechanical seal — a common wear point on other pump types is simply absent.
  • AISI 304 housing, suited to tap water and other clean low-lubricity fluids.
  • Field serviceable — Danfoss supplies purpose-designed service kits and tools, which we stock.

Typical duties include high-pressure water mist and fog systems, humidification, dust suppression, industrial cleaning, hydrostatic testing and water hydraulics.

Frequently Asked Questions

What flow will the PAH 50 give me?
Flow is proportional to shaft speed: 47.0 l/min at 1000 rpm and 72.1 l/min at 1500 rpm, or 14.8 gpm at 1200 rpm and 22.7 gpm at 1800 rpm — all at maximum pressure. The flow curve in the gallery shows the full range.
Does it come with a motor?
No — this is the bare pump. Danfoss suggests around 10.6 kW at 1500 rpm, or 17.1 HP at 1800 rpm, at maximum pressure. Tell us your duty point and supply voltage and we will quote the complete motor unit.
Can it run on water other than tap water?
The PAH range is built for tap water and similar low-lubricity fluids, with an AISI 304 housing. For seawater or brackish RO you want the APP range in Duplex stainless instead. For demineralised water or water with additives there are dedicated variants. Send us your water analysis and we will point you at the right one.
What inlet pressure does it need?
0-4 barg (0-58 psig) continuous. Running the pump starved is one of the fastest ways to damage it.
Is there an ATEX version?
Yes — 180B6147 is the same PAH 50 with ATEX approval, Category 2 (Zone 1) or Category 3 (Zone 2), for a classified explosive atmosphere. For ordinary plant rooms this standard code is correct and costs less.
How is it serviced?
Danfoss recommends periodic inspection, with frequency set by water quality and duty. Service kits and a purpose-designed tool set are available and we stock them. See §9 of the data sheet and the operating guide linked above.
Need help sizing or a quotation? ForeverPure is an authorised Danfoss distributor and has shipped water treatment systems since 1997.
