Forklift Battery Weight & Dimensions Chart: 24V, 36V, 48V, 80V (2026 Reference)
Complete dimensional reference for every 24V, 36V, 48V, and 80V tubular flooded lead-acid forklift battery ForeverPure Power ships in the US. Updated April 2026.
When specifying a forklift battery replacement, three measurements matter before anything else: dimensions (W × D × H), weight, and voltage/capacity (Ah). The dimensions must match your lift-truck battery compartment exactly. The weight must meet the forklift's minimum counterweight requirement for stability under load — if your new battery is lighter than spec, the truck's tip-over rating changes and OSHA 1910.178 compliance is at risk.
This page is the complete weight and dimensions reference for every tubular flooded lead-acid forklift battery sold by ForeverPure Power. All batteries are manufactured to Battery Council International (BCI) BCIS-14 standards and rated at the 6-hour discharge rate (the industry standard for industrial traction batteries).
What the SKU tells you
Our SKUs follow the industry BCI format: cells-Ah_per_plate-total_plates. For example, 24-85-21 means:
- 24 cells × 2 V/cell = 48-volt battery
- 85 Ah per positive plate
- 21 total plates per cell (10 positive + 11 negative)
- Capacity = 10 positives × 85 Ah = 850 Ah @ 6 hr
Suffixes: .wc = with cover. .FLA = renewable-energy deep-cycle variant (same cell, rated at the 20-hour discharge instead of 6-hour). Letters -a / -b / -d distinguish physically different cases with the same electrical rating.

How to Measure Your Existing Forklift Battery
- Width — the short dimension perpendicular to the truck's forward axis
- Depth (length) — the long dimension parallel to the truck's forward axis
- Height — floor of the battery compartment to the top of the cell posts (not the cover handles)
- Weigh the existing battery on a pallet scale — or read the nameplate. Match or exceed this number on the replacement; do not go lighter without re-ballasting the truck.
Dimensional Tolerance & Fit
Published dimensions carry a manufacturing tolerance of roughly ±0.25". The battery should have 0.25"–0.5" of clearance on each side of the compartment for insertion and removal; anything tighter invites jam-ups. If your lift-truck OEM specifies a BCI Group size (e.g., BCI Group 24, 27, 31, etc.) cross-reference it against the nearest SKU — our catalog is cross-matched to all major BCI groups.
Counterweight, Tip-Over, and OSHA Compliance
Forklift batteries serve a dual role: they power the truck and act as counterweight for the load the forks carry. Each lift-truck model has a minimum battery weight spec stamped on the data plate. Installing a lighter battery violates the capacity/load-center chart printed on the plate and creates an OSHA non-compliance hazard (29 CFR 1910.178). If you're replacing a battery and the new one is lighter, you'll need to add ballast — contact your truck OEM or us.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How much does a 48V forklift battery weigh?
A: 48V forklift batteries typically weigh between 1,500 and 4,200 lb depending on capacity (Ah) — our smallest 48V unit is around 1,531 lb (340 Ah) and the largest is 4,200 lb (1,105 Ah). See the 48V chart above for every model.
Q: What are the dimensions of a standard 24V forklift battery?
A: Standard 24V forklift batteries (12 cells, 150–1,000 Ah) range from about 6.5" × 24" × 23" for small pallet-jack units up to about 14" × 38" × 30" for large sit-down trucks. Exact dimensions depend on Ah capacity and BCI group size.
Q: Do I need the same weight battery as my old one?
A: Yes. Forklift batteries act as counterweight. If you install a lighter battery than the truck's nameplate spec, the rated load capacity printed on the data plate is no longer valid and OSHA 1910.178 is violated. Match the original weight or add certified ballast.
Q: What is the difference between the 6-hour and 20-hour Ah rating?
A: The 6-hour rate is the BCI industry-standard discharge rate for forklift batteries. The 20-hour rate is the discharge rate used for renewable-energy deep-cycle batteries (.FLA suffix on our SKUs). The same cell delivers roughly 60% more Ah at the slower 20-hour rate.
Q: Are these batteries AGM or flooded?
A: All batteries on this chart are tubular flooded lead-acid (FLA). They are not AGM, gel, or lithium. Flooded batteries require monthly watering with distilled water and adequate ventilation during charging, but they offer the lowest cost-per-cycle and longest service life under deep-cycle duty.
Glossary of Terms
- Ah (Ampere-hour)
- Battery capacity unit. 100 Ah = 100 amperes for 1 hour, or 10 amperes for 10 hours.
- BCI BCIS-14
- Battery Council International standard for capacity testing of industrial-traction batteries at the 6-hour discharge rate.
- DoD (Depth of Discharge)
- Percentage of battery capacity removed. 80% DoD = battery is at 20% state of charge.
- FLA (Flooded Lead-Acid)
- Vented lead-acid battery with liquid sulfuric-acid electrolyte. Requires periodic watering.
- SG (Specific Gravity)
- Density of the electrolyte vs. water. Fully-charged FLA cell measures 1.270–1.300; discharged 1.120–1.140.
- Equalization
- Deliberate controlled overcharge at 2.50 V/cell that dissolves sulfate from plates and corrects acid stratification.
- UN 2794
- UN identifier for wet-filled lead-acid batteries in hazmat shipping. Hazard Class 8 Corrosive.
- NMFC 60680
- National Motor Freight Classification code for wet electric storage batteries. Freight Class 70.
- Tubular Plate
- Positive-plate construction style where lead-active material is held inside a perforated polyester gauntlet, increasing cycle life vs. flat-plate designs.
- Counterweight
- In a counterbalance forklift, the battery itself is part of the rear ballast that offsets the lifted load.
