How it works
Spiral-wound thin-film composite elements. Feed water flows along the membrane surface under pressure; purified permeate passes through and spirals to the central collection tube, while the rejected salts leave as concentrate. Performance is quoted at a defined test condition - change the feed salinity, pressure, temperature or recovery and the delivered flow and rejection change with it.
Technical notes
Permeate flow and rejection are test-condition figures
DuPont measures every element on a standard solution stated on its data sheet. Two elements are only comparable at the same conditions. System design should use projection software with your actual analysis, not the headline number.
Stabilized vs minimum rejection
The stabilized value is the expected performance once the element has lined out; the minimum is the guaranteed floor for an individual element. Individual permeate flow rates may vary from nominal - DuPont states the tolerance on the sheet.
Free chlorine
Polyamide composite membranes are oxidised by free chlorine. DuPont's sheets state the tolerance in ppm; dechlorinate ahead of the membrane and control it continuously.
