What does a battery model number like 18-125-17 mean?

Industry standard three-part code: the first number is the cell count (each lead-acid cell is 2 volts, so 18 cells = 36 V; 24 cells = 48 V; 12 cells = 24 V). The middle number is the amp-hour rating of each positive plate (125 Ah). The last number is the plates per cell (17). Capacity = plates-minus-one, divided by two, times the plate rating: (17−1) ÷ 2 × 125 = 1,000 Ah at the 6-hour rate.

How do I know my battery's capacity is right for my shift?
