KDF® 55 Process Media is a high-purity copper-zinc redox alloy engineered to remove or reduce chlorine and water-soluble heavy metals while controlling scale, bacteria, and algae — even in hot water. As water passes through the media, an electrochemical (redox) reaction converts free chlorine into harmless, water-soluble chloride and reduces dissolved heavy-metal ions to their insoluble forms, where they bond to the media surface.
This drum contains 1/3 cubic foot (57 lbs / 26 kg) of KDF® 55 medium and is ideal for chlorine and heavy-metal reduction in point-of-entry systems, well-water treatment, and as a pre-treatment bed ahead of carbon to extend carbon life. Used alone or blended with granular activated carbon, KDF® 55 protects downstream media and equipment from chlorine attack and microbial fouling.
