How it works
Polymer beads carrying fixed functional groups that exchange mobile counter-ions with the water passing through them. Capacity is finite and is restored by regeneration with acid, caustic or brine according to the resin type - it is not consumed like a filter cartridge.
Technical notes
Total exchange capacity is a laboratory value
It is the resin's full theoretical capacity per litre. Operating capacity in a real vessel is lower and depends on regenerant dose, flow rate, temperature, bed depth and the ionic makeup of the feed. Size a bed from a design calculation, not from the headline capacity.
Particle size and uniformity coefficient
Uniform particle size resins give a narrower bead distribution, which lowers pressure drop and improves regeneration efficiency versus a conventional Gaussian grade.
Operating limits
The temperature and pH ranges on the data sheet apply to the ionic form as supplied. Exceeding the temperature limit degrades the functional group irreversibly, particularly for strong base anion resins in the hydroxide form.
