Frequently Asked Questions: BW30-400/34 vs. BW30 PRO-400/34
What happened to the FilmTec BW30-400/34?
DuPont discontinued the original BW30-400/34 series and replaced it with the FilmTec BW30 PRO-400/34, the current-production successor in the same configuration.
What does the “/34” mean?
It denotes a 34-mil feed spacer — thicker than the 28-mil spacer in the standard BW30 PRO-400. The thicker spacer lessens the impact of fouling on pressure drop, making the /34 configuration the right choice for higher-fouling feeds, while keeping the full 400 ft² active area.
What is the difference between the old and PRO versions?
The PRO element is built on DuPont's current precision automated fabrication platform, delivering tighter element-to-element consistency and the BW30 PRO family's tightened rejection specification. The original BW30-400/34 was rated 10,500 GPD with 99.5% stabilized / 99.0% minimum rejection (2,000 ppm NaCl, 225 psi); refer to the current DuPont data sheet for the PRO element's exact figures.
What is the same on both elements?
400 ft² (37 m²) active area, 34-mil feed spacer, polyamide TFC chemistry, 8″ × 40″ form factor, and the same test basis.
Can I replace my BW30-400/34 with a BW30 PRO-400/34 without changing my system?
Yes — standard 8″ × 40″ element (1.125″ permeate tube), fits any standard 8-inch pressure vessel, 600 psig maximum operating pressure. No system modifications required.
