Frequently Asked Questions: BW30-400 vs. BW30 PRO-400
What happened to the FilmTec BW30-400?
DuPont discontinued the original FilmTec BW30-400 and replaced it with the FilmTec BW30 PRO-400, its official direct successor. It drops into the same 8-inch vessels with no system changes.
What is the difference between the BW30-400 and the BW30 PRO-400?
At identical data-sheet test conditions (2,000 ppm NaCl, 225 psi, 77 °F, pH 8, 15% recovery) the PRO element is rated 11,000 GPD with 99.6% stabilized / 99.4% minimum salt rejection, vs. 10,500 GPD and 99.5% / 99.0% for the original — about 5% more water and a tighter rejection guarantee. It is also built on DuPont's current precision automated fabrication platform for better element-to-element consistency.
What is the same on both elements?
Both have 400 ft² (37 m²) active area, a 28-mil feed spacer, polyamide thin-film composite chemistry, the same 8″ × 40″ form factor, and the same 2,000 ppm NaCl / 225 psi test basis.
Can I replace my BW30-400 with a BW30 PRO-400 without changing my system?
Yes — standard 8″ × 40″ element (1.125″ permeate tube), fits any standard 8-inch pressure vessel, 600 psig maximum operating pressure. No system modifications required.
Which applications is the BW30 PRO-400 designed for?
Industrial and municipal brackish-water RO systems producing more than roughly 10 gpm of permeate: groundwater, surface water, and process water treatment where high rejection and reliable long-term performance matter.
